Phang Nga – The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain for the southern region from December 3rd to the 5th, accompanied by new flood warnings. A low-pressure system over the lower South China Sea is expected to move through the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region towards the Andaman Sea, bringing significant rainfall.
The affected provinces include Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Additionally, very heavy rain is anticipated in Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, which could lead to flash floods and landslides, particularly in areas near waterways or on slopes.
The Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea are expected to experience moderate waves reaching 1-2 meters, with waves possibly exceeding 2 meters in stormy areas. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid stormy regions.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for 14 southern provinces to remain vigilant for flash floods, landslides, and flooding during this period. DDPM’s centers in Surat Thani, Songkhla, and Phuket have been instructed to monitor weather conditions, water levels, and the situation around the clock, especially in areas receiving over 90 mm of rainfall within 24 hours.
