UPDATE: Shark Attack Suspected in Injury of German Tourist in Phang Nga

Phang Nga –

A bull shark attack is being suspected to have injured a female German tourist in Takua Pa.

Our previous story:

A 57-year-old German woman sustained a severe leg wound after being bitten by a fish while swimming in the sea at Takua Pa.

Now for the update:

The director of the Coastal Resources Division 6, Mr. Suriya Sornserm told the Phuket Express that after an examination from the wound on the injured woman’s leg, officials believe that it was a bull shark that attacked her while she went swimming near the shore.

In the past three days, local fishermen told The Phuket Express that they caught one bull shark. They believe that some bull sharks might be closer to the shore than usual to find food. Officials said that the bull sharks habitat are in the areas of both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

The woman is expected to recover from her injuries but was understandably shaken up. Warning signs about the possible threat of sharks have been placed in the nearby area.
