Phang Nga – A 57-year-old German woman sustained a severe leg wound after being bitten by a fish while swimming in the sea at Takua Pa.
Emergency responders were alerted to the incident on Friday, November 29th, at Nang Thong Beach in Kuek Kak. Upon arrival, they found Mrs. Elke, 57, a German national, who had suffered a serious leg wound from an unidentified fish while swimming at a depth of about 1.5 meters. She was promptly transported to a private hospital in Phuket for treatment.
Mrs. Elke described the fish only as long to the emergency responders, which did not help in identifying it. The Phuket Fisheries Research and Development Center is currently examining the wound to identify the species of fish responsible for the attack. In response to the incident, local authorities have installed warning signs in both Thai and English to caution swimmers at nearby beaches.
