Flood Relief Efforts Underway for 136,000 Households in Southern Thailand

PRESS RELEASE:

Flood relief operations are in full swing in the South, where severe flooding has affected over 136,000 households across seven provinces. Authorities are deploying personnel and equipment to mitigate the damage and assist those impacted.

Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, has instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to lead the response efforts. He is scheduled to visit the affected areas on Friday to personally oversee the ongoing operations. The floods have so far caused widespread damage across 50 districts, more than 300 sub-districts, and nearly 1,900 villages.

The hardest-hit provinces include Narathiwat, where about 42,300 households have been affected, Yala with 27,400 households impacted, and Nakhon Si Thammarat, which has seen 34,500 households affected. Other provinces experiencing significant impacts are Songkhla, Pattani, Surat Thani, and Satun.

The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission and mobile network operators, has sent SMS flood warnings to residents in high-risk areas. Alerts were issued to 18 districts and 82 sub-districts across Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat to help communities prepare for potential flooding.

Sabeeda Thaiyseth, Deputy Minister of the Interior, is on-site in Narathiwat and Yala provinces to monitor the situation and support relief efforts. The DDPM has deployed disaster response teams and machinery to affected areas, working closely with regional offices to provide immediate aid to residents.
