The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area of Phuket from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.
These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket.
They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, November 18th to Sunday November 24th, 2024.
1. Police searched a suspect’s home in Pa Klok after he was described as a suspect who allegedly cut off a dugong’s head.

Police searched inside and outside his house but no dugong’s head, teeth, or fangs were found.
2. The annual Patong Carnival will be held next month to mark the official opening of the Phuket tourism high season.

The 38th annual Event will be held from December 8th to December 10th at Patong Beach. This year will be under the theme ‘Phuket Memories of a lifetime.’
3. A male British tourist was found dead after he walked down into a one meter deep water drain in Patong.

CCTV footage of the incident shows that the British man crossed the fence before going down into the water drain by himself and that he did not appear to accidentally fall into the drain.
4. The MICHELIN Guide Facebook page posted an announcement of its 2025 stars on November 28th unveiling a list of Thailand 156 Bib Gourmand winners.
Phuket also shines with spots like Kin-Kub-Ei (family-style southern Thai dishes), Krua Baan Plathong (spicy Phuket classics like stir-fried shrimp with shrimp paste), and Niyom Salt Grilled Duck (tender grilled duck and chicken with unique dipping sauces).
