Koh Samui in Surat Thani has experienced a surge in international visitors with the arrival of two cruise ships carrying over 2,000 tourists. On Friday (Nov 22), the MS Noordam from US-based Holland America Line docked at Nathon Pier, bringing 1,924 passengers. The MS Seven Seas Explorer from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings also made its second visit, with 750 travelers.
Nathon Pier was reportedly bustling with activity as over 100 vehicles, including taxis, buses, and trucks, transported tourists for one-day excursions around the island. The vibrant atmosphere reaffirmed Koh Samui’s continued appeal as a key destination for cruise travelers.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Koh Samui Office has confirmed that ten cruise ships are scheduled to visit the island between mid-November and December, carrying an estimated 7,500 passengers. Visitors are expected to spend approximately 5,000 baht per day on transportation, dining, and souvenirs, potentially generating 35 million baht in total revenue for the local economy.
The influx of cruise passengers indicates the island’s growing popularity and provides a welcome boost to the southern island’s tourism sector as it continues to attract international travelers.
