Chinese Tourists Lead Thailand Visitor Numbers, Pushing Total to 30 Million

Thailand has welcomed over 30 million international visitors this year, with Chinese tourists leading the way, as the country’s high season kicks off.

The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported that from January 1st to November 17th, 2024, Thailand has welcomed over 30 million international tourists, generating approximately 1.43 trillion baht in revenue from foreign tourist spending. The top 5 countries with the highest number of visitors to Thailand are:

  1. China – 5,973,990 visitors
  2. Malaysia – 4,361,287 visitors
  3. India – 1,822,543 visitors
  4. South Korea – 1,608,369 visitors
  5. Russia – 1,405,327 visitors

Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, announced that in the past week, short-haul tourists showed a 4.53% increase, especially during the Loy Krathong Festival.

Chinese tourists are currently on top of the list, with 113,842 visiting Thailand in the past week, representing a 10.37% increase from the previous week. Long-haul tourists also continue to rise. The total number of international tourists in the past week was 747,944, up by 1.60% from the previous week, averaging 106,850 visitors per day.

Mr. Sorawong said the number of international visitors is expected to rise due to the start of Thailand’s high season, especially for long-haul travelers from Europe.
