British Man Found Dead after Walking Into Water Drain in Patong

Patong –

A male British tourist was found dead after he walked down into a one meter deep water drain in Patong on Wednesday (November 20th).

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the body in a water drain near the Patong Hospital on the Phra Mettha Road. Rescue workers and police arrived at the scene and found that the area around the water drain was blocked by a one-meter-high iron fence.

In the water drain rescue teams found the body of the 36 year old male British tourist. Police believed that he died at least six hours before his body was recovered.

His relatives who were later informed of the untimely death told police that three of them arrived together in Phuket on the weekend of November 17th. They stayed at a hotel in Patong. On Tuesday (November 19th) the British man left the room alone and was unable to contact his family.

CCTV footage of the incident shows that the British man crossed the fence before going down into the water drain by himself and that he did not appear to accidentally fall into the drain. It was unclear why he went into the drain and police are still investigating the incident.

The name of the victim was withheld at the request of the relatives.
