Nine Provinces in Southern Region Warned of Heavy Downpours

PRESS RELEASE:

The Flood, Storm, and Landslide Relief Operations Center has issued an advisory for nine southern provinces to prepare for heavy rainfall between November 20 and 26. Provinces expected to be affected include Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Surat Thani, Trang, and Satun.

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has warned of potential flash floods, runoff, urban flooding, river overflows, and stagnant water in low-lying areas.

Although Tropical Storm “Man-yi,” currently over the South China Sea, is forecast to weaken without impacting Thailand, southern provinces are still cautioned to brace for a series of downpours. Authorities have implemented water management strategies, including lowering reservoir levels and clearing drainage systems to reduce the risk of flooding. Public communication channels are active, ensuring timely updates and warnings reach local communities.

According to the center’s deputy spokesperson, Sasikarn Watthanachan, relief efforts are ongoing in flood-affected countrywide. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, in partnership with the Government Savings Bank, has distributed 9,000 baht per household via PromptPay to affected families. To date, 257,914 households have received financial assistance, totaling 2.32 billion baht.

Residents in the affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and stay informed through official updates as authorities continue to implement measures to mitigate the impact of the anticipated heavy rainfall.
