Thalang –

Police searched a suspect’s home in Pa Klok after he was described as a suspect who allegedly cut off a dugong’s head.

Our previous story:

A headless dugong was found near a pier in Paklok

A plastic bag was found in the stomach of a headless dugong with a cut wound, appearing to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

Now for the update:

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that a search warrant was issued by the Phuket Provincial Court on Saturday (November 16th) for a house in Pa Klok. The House owner was named by officials only as Mr. Nuek and was presented as the house owner. Police searched inside and outside his house but no dugong’s head, teeth, or fangs were found.

However, officers are still hunting for additional suspects. The Phuket Express noted that some people believe dugong fangs are holy and use them to make amulets. The dugong is one of Thailand’s Reserved Animals and is nearly extinct.

It’s unclear how this suspect came to the attention of Phuket officials and the suspect has said he is innocent.
