Southern Region Prepares For Heavy Rain

PRESS RELEASE:

Deputy Spokesperson for the Flood, Storm, and Landslide Relief Operations Center, Sasikarn Watthanachan, has announced that Typhoon “Man-Yi,” currently in the South China Sea, will not affect Thailand.

The typhoon is forecast to dissipate near Vietnam’s coast after moving past the Philippines. However, a monsoon trough is expected to bring heavy rainfall to Southern Thailand from November 20 to 24, prompting government agencies to prepare for potential emergencies.

The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has issued alerts for Pattani, Narathiwat, Songkhla, and Phatthalung provinces, warning that several districts may experience heavy downpours. Authorities are identifying landslide-prone areas and preparing to provide timely assistance to residents. Preparations also include inspections of levees and drainage systems to mitigate the risk of flooding.

According to Sasikarn, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has deployed personnel and heavy machinery to ensure rapid emergency response. Local authorities are on standby to support affected communities and address severe weather impacts.

In Yala province, rural road No. 4044, previously damaged by floods, has been temporarily restored with a Bailey bridge. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution while traveling through the area.
