UPDATE: Plastic Bag Found in Stomach of Deceased Headless Dugong in Phuket

A plastic bag was found in the stomach of a headless dugong with a cut wound, appearing to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that an autopsy was conducted on the decomposed dugong. He was a male adult dugong and he weighed about 250 kilograms and was 2.23 meters long.

Rope was found around him at his rear A plastic bag was found inside him along with seagrass. The cause of death is because of sickness after he became weak. However, his head was believed to have been removed after he died. Dugong heads, teeth, and fangs are valuable to illegal poachers and collectors.
