Phuket —
On November 16th, 2024, Mr. Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office, announced that Phuket’s tourism sector has effectively eliminated the concept of a low season.
Sports events, including surfing, trail running, triathlons, and more, continuously attract global interest throughout the year, according to Lertchai.
Despite previously being considered a low season, sporting activities have kept visitors engaged year-round, contributing to consistent tourist arrivals. This year, tourism revenue in Phuket has surged by 16%, exceeding pre-COVID levels and setting new records.
Notably, Phuket reportedly outperformed other provinces in revenue generation, with earnings of 360 billion baht between January and September, compared to Chonburi’s 200 billion baht despite higher tourist numbers in Chonburi.
With additional events such as yacht races, golf tournaments, and Muay Thai matches, the province anticipates surpassing 450 billion baht in revenue this year, potentially nearing 500 billion baht.
Phuket’s integration of sports into tourism, coupled with international interest, has transformed it into a year-round destination without a low season, remarked Lertchai.
