Hat Yai —
On November 16th, 2024, Hat Yai police arrested a 39-year-old American man following allegations of sexually assaulting a 35-year-old Chinese woman who refused intimacy without protection.
The victim, publicly identified only as Ms. Chang, stated she met the suspect, Mr. Christian, on November 2nd at a local restaurant in Hat Yai, Songkhla.
The pair reportedly developed a close relationship, frequently meeting at her hotel room. According to Chang, their encounters were consensual as long as Christian used protection.
However, on November 7th, she alleged that during a visit, Christian refused to use protection and became enraged when she denied his advances, eventually sexually assaulting her by force before fleeing.
Following her report to Hat Yai police station, investigators promptly gathered evidence and secured an arrest warrant from Songkhla Provincial Court. That same day, police and tourist authorities located Christian at another hotel in Hat Yai and arrested him.
Initially, Christian faces charges of sexual assault, defined under Thai law as using threats or physical force to commit acts against a person who cannot resist. Police are continuing their investigation to build a strong case against the suspect.
Christian did not immediately release a statement to the Thai media and it was not known if he had yet obtained the services of a lawyer or legal representative.
