Sea Turtle Drowns After Getting Stuck in Fishing Net in Thalang

Thalang –

A sea turtle drowned after being stuck in a fishing net at a beach in Mai Khao.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified from a national park staffer of the incident. A dead sea turtle stuck in a fishing net had washed up on the Pak Phra beach.

They arrived at the beach to find the young Olive Ridley sea turtle in the fishing net. It measured 32 centimeters in length, 35 centimeters in width, and weighed 3 kilograms. The turtle was still freshly deceased with wounds found on its flippers.

An autopsy was conducted where a small rope was found inside its stomach. Its cause of death was an infection in its stomach before it drowned.
