Phuket Prepares for Possible Floods after Tropical Storm ‘Trami’ Warning

Phuket –

Phuket is preparing for possible flash floods after the Thai Meteiroligical Department (TMD) has warned of Tropical Storm Trami, especially for Karon.

A meeting was held at the Phuket Provincial Hall on Friday (October 26th) and was led by Mr. Surasee Kittimonthon, Secretary-General of the Office of National Water Resources (ONWR).

Mr. Surasee told the Phuket Express that The TMD issued a weather advisory on Tropical Storm “Trami”. The southwest monsoon was over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand and will intensify, bringing continuous heavy rain to the South and rough seas with waves reaching 2 meters in the Andaman Sea and 1-2 meters in the Gulf.

Karon is an at-risk area which is planning for landslide prevention. The area is more at-risk than others in Phuket because of the high mountains with many waterways. Below the mountains are many residential areas and as a result this is a challenge to prevent landslides. Residents should be aware of prevention and safety measures, Mr. Surasee explained.
