Phuket Fortifies Flood Defenses with Satellite Data and Real-Time Alert Systems

At 5:00 PM on October 25th, 2024, Dr. Surasri Kidtimonton, the secretary-general of the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), visited flood-prone areas in Phuket to assess water levels and emergency readiness.

The first stop was at a landslide-risk site in Karon Municipality, Mueang, where officials briefed him on local conditions. Dr. Surasri also visited Bang Wad Reservoir in Kathu to evaluate water management strategies for both rainy and dry seasons.

Scheduled for yesterday (October 26th), Dr. Surasri led a provincial flood preparedness meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall. Key agencies, including the Meteorological Department, Hydro Informatics Institute, and Disaster Prevention Department, discussed weather forecasts, satellite imagery, rainfall predictions, and landslide risk.

The agenda includes coordinated water management plans and real-time warning systems for vulnerable communities.
