Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Strong Seas from Tropical Storm Trami

National —

At 11:00 p.m. on October 24th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather advisory on Tropical Storm “Trami,” which is not expected to hit Thailand directly but will bring increased rainfall and heavy downpours to the Northeast, Central, and Eastern regions from October 26th to the 28th.

Tropical Storm Trami, located in the northern South China Sea, has maximum winds near its center at 85 kilometers per hour, moving westward at 7 kilometers per hour. While the storm is expected to approach Vietnam’s central coast, it will strengthen winds over Thailand, leading to heavy rain and strong winds in some areas.

Afterwards, the storm will shift away from Vietnam, causing rainfall to decrease.

In addition, the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand will intensify, bringing continuous heavy rain to the South and rough seas with waves reaching 2 meters in the Andaman Sea and 1-2 meters in the Gulf.

People in affected areas should be alert to potential flash floods and landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous regions. Boaters are advised to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorms.
