UPDATE: Phuket Officials Unable to Identify Dugongs Cause of Death

Phuket –

The cause of death of a second recently found deceased dugong could not be identified due to advanced decomposition.

Our previous stories:

A second dugong was found dead on Kamala Beach on Wednesday (October 23rd).

Now for the update:

An autopsy was conducted on the dugong by the Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR). The exact length and weight of the dugong was 252 centimeters and 250 kilograms. The dugong was heavily decomposed.

Outside the dugong marine officials found some wounds which included those from being entangled in some sort of rope or net. The inside of the dugong’s intestines were found full of sea grass which means that he could still eat as normal before he died. Other internal organs were heavily decomposed and as a result his exact cause of death could not be identified.
