Intoxicated Man Stopped by Police with a Gun in Kathu

An intoxicated man was stopped by police with a real gun after he was unable to be stopped by a taser in Kathu.

The Kathu Police told the Phuket Express that they were notified of the incident by a neighbor on Thursday night (October 17th). An intoxicated man reportedly trying to attack his family members at a local residence. Police and rescue workers arrived at the house and found that the man in question who was carrying a knife was unable to control himself.

Police asked him to put the knife down but instead he was uncooperative and tried to attack police and rescue workers instead. After two hours of negotiation, at midnight, police used a taser to try to stop him but failed and then he tried to attack the police and rescue staff once again.

One of the police officers shot the man with a gun, targeting his legs. The man finally was stopped after he had sustained injuries from a bullet wound to his leg. He was taken to a local hospital with a police escort.

He was later identified by police only as Mr. Naruephon. His mother told police that nine years ago he had attacked his own grandmother and murdered her. He was just released from a prison two months ago after serving almost nine years in jail.

The cause of Mr. Naruephon’s rage was unclear.
