On October 17th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning regarding unsettled weather conditions expected across the country from October 19th to the 21st.
A new wave of cold air from China will bring thunderstorms and heavy rainfall to upper Thailand, while the southern regions will continue to experience rain.
The cold front will combine with moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, affecting the northern, northeastern, and central parts of the country. The southern monsoon trough is expected to cause particularly heavy rainfall in the central and eastern provinces.
Residents in northern, northeastern, and central Thailand are warned of thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds, and flash floods, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas. The eastern and southern coasts, in particular, are expected to see the heaviest downpours, with a high risk of flash floods and landslides.
Coastal areas, especially in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, are expected to see waves reaching up to two meters during thunderstorms.
People are advised to avoid outdoor activities during storms and remain alert to flood risks. Fishermen are urged to avoid going to sea in areas experiencing thunderstorms, as waves are expected to rise significantly.
The Thai Meteorological Department encourages the public to stay updated on weather warnings and forecasts via its website or by calling 1182.
