Gunman Arrested After Shooting Over Affair in Kathu

Phuket-

On Sunday, October 13th, at a location near the Kathu Police Station on Wichit Songkram Road, a tragic shooting unfolded just before noon, leading to the death of 31-year-old Mr. Suwit from Phitsanulok. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight, was captured by CCTV cameras and involved a heated exchange that escalated rapidly.

According to authorities, Mr. Suwit was engaged in a conversation with another man, later identified only as 32-year-old Mr. Thitipong, in front of a local restaurant. The confrontation took a violent turn when Mr. Thitipong attempted to seize Mr. Suwit’s bag. In a desperate attempt to escape, Mr. Suwit fled across the road, but was shot twice by Mr. Thitipong. One bullet penetrated his back and exited through his chest, leading to his immediate collapse and subsequent death opposite the restaurant.

Witnesses and CCTV footage confirmed the sequence of events, showing the gunman firing shots before fleeing the scene in his car. Alerted by the sound of gunfire, officers from the Kathu Traffic Police, who were nearby, pursued and apprehended Mr. Thitipong roughly ten minutes after the shooting.

The motive behind the shooting was revealed to be a dispute over an affair, as confirmed by a woman who arrived at the scene but whose identity was kept confidential for her safety. She indicated that both men were attempting to resolve issues related to their entangled romantic relationships, a negotiation that evidently ended in failure and violence.

Mr. Thitipong has been taken into custody, and charges are expected to be filed soon. The Kathu Police are continuing their investigation to gather further details on the relationship between the victim and the shooter, and to ensure all aspects of the incident are thoroughly documented.
