Sea Turtle Rescued from Fishing Net on Kamala Beach

Phuket –

A sea turtle was rescued after being entangled in a fishing net on the Kamala Beach in Kathu.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified of the incident from beach lifeguards at the Kamala Beach. A sea turtle which was stuck in a fishing net had washed up on the beach. They helped to remove the fishing net from the turtle.

The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the male adult Olive ridley sea turtle. The turtle is 69.5 centimeters wide, 68.5 centimeters long and weighs 26.3 kilograms. The turtle was weak and dehydrated. Severe wounds were found on his left flipper.

The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment before being released back to the sea.
