Phuket Vegetarian Street Processions with Devotees Begin

The first day of the vegetarian festival street procession with devotees started at the Jor Su Kong Naka Chinese Shrine in Wichit.

 

On Friday (October 4th) in the morning was the second day of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival but is the first day of the vegetarian street processions. The first street procession started from the Jor Su Kong Naka Chinese Shrine.

The Ew Geng sacred ceremony was held in honor of the Nine Emperor Gods in the procession from the Jor Su Kong Naka Shrine to Saphan Hin in Phuket town before heading back to the shrine.

Male and female devotees were seen stabbing their faces with various items such as sharp rods and swords to show that they had relieved the burden of unlucky things and bad karma from people who were waiting for them along the road. Many Thais and foreigners watched the procession.
