Phuket –

A father and his son have survived after a frightening fire gutted their SUV during the vegetarian street procession in Phuket Old Town.

Firefighters from the Phuket City Municipality were notified of the fire at 8:30 P.M. on Thursday (October 3rd) on a small road between two banks on the Rassada Road. They arrived at the scene to find the fire was heavily ablaze at the white SUV. The fire also spread to another car nearby. It took half an hour to control the fire to both vehicles. The white SUV was totally damaged and some parts of the other car were also damaged by the fire.

The white SUV owner, Mr. Supphachai, 50, told the Phuket Express that he and his son had just returned from watching the vegetarian street procession on roads nearby. He put some firecrackers in the car and they sat in the car for awhile before he saw a fire at the back in his SUV. He immediately got out of the car with his son. He believed that inside the car was too hot during the day and that the heat may have caused some firecrackers to accidentally blow up.

The Phuket Express noted that this was the second fire incident on the same day in Phuket.

A boat captain has sustained injuries after a fire destroyed a tour catamaran off Paklok after 22 tourists were dropped off at the Naka Yai Island.
