Sea Turtle Rescued from Fishing Net on Nai Yang Beach

Phuket –

A sea turtle was rescued after being entangled in a fishing net on the Nai Yang Beach in Thalang.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified from the Sirinat National Park staffers at the Nai Yang Beach in Sakoo that a sea turtle which was stuck in a fishing net was washed up on the beach. They helped to remove the fishing net from the turtle.

The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the young Olive Ridley sea turtle. Its gender could not be identified. The turtle is 34.5 centimeters wide, 33.6 centimeters long, and weighs 3.2 kilograms. The turtle was weak and dehydrated. Severe wounds were found on both its flippers and shell.

The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment before being released back to the sea.
