One person has sustained injuries from a gunshot after two market owners got into an argument in a market in Sri Soonthorn, causing dozens of customers and foreign tourists to flee in terror. The suspect has reportedly surrendered.

Now for the update:

The Thalang Police told the Phuket Express that the suspect, now identified as Mr. Manas Gorjaroen, 68, is also well known locally as ‘Go Beng’. He presented himself to the Thalang Police with a COLT handgun. Go Beng is facing charges of carrying a firearm in public without legal permission, opening fire in public without a proper reason, and attempted murder.

It has been reported that the former village headman in Sri Soonthorn ‘Kamnan Pieak’ was Go Beng’s former business partner. They used to manage a market together but fell out and Kamnan Pieak is now planning to open a new market one kilometer away from Go Beng’s market.

On Monday (September 23rd) Kamnan Pieak’ came to Go Beng’s market. Sellers told police that he allegedly was trying to persuade sellers to sell at his new market and leave Go Beng’s market. The Phuket Express noted that his market was planned to be open on the same days as Go Beng’s market which is on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Go Beng became angry after seeing Kamnan Pieak at his market before the two men started a verbal argument which escalated to the shooting.
