At 4:00 a.m. on September 18th, 2024, the Thai Meteorological Department issued a warning about a tropical depression over the South China Sea, which is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to Thailand from September 20th to the 23rd.
The storm is moving westward at around 25 kilometers per hour and is likely to intensify into a tropical storm. It is forecast to make landfall in central Vietnam between September 20th and 21st before weakening.
This weather pattern will result in increased rainfall across Thailand, with heavy to very heavy rain in parts of the North, Northeast, Bangkok and its vicinity, the East, and the South from September 20th-23rd.
In addition, a strong monsoon trough will affect the lower North, Central, and Northeast regions from September 18th to 21st, bringing more heavy rain.
Waves in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach heights of 2-4 meters, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves over 4 meters. Mariners are urged to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas, while small boats in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand should stay ashore during this time.
