On September 17, Ms. Traisulee Traisoranakul, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, announced that the Thai Cabinet approved a central budget of 3 billion baht to provide emergency financial assistance to flood victims affected by the 2024 rainy season.
The funds will be distributed according to the guidelines set by the Cabinet, with the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DPMD) overseeing the process. The Government Savings Bank will directly transfer the relief money to eligible victims via the PromptPay system, ensuring efficient disbursement.
To qualify for aid, the flooding must have occurred after May 20th, 2024, covering flash floods, river overflows, or areas impacted by water management. Victims in the 57 declared disaster zones, including provinces such as Chonburi, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, are eligible for assistance.
Households flooded for 1-7 days will receive 5,000 baht, for 7-30 days, 7,000 baht, and for more than 60 days, 9,000 baht. However, assistance will only be provided once, even if the same household experiences multiple floods, according to Traisulee.
In total, 338,391 households will benefit from the program. Local authorities, including village leaders and provincial disaster committees, will verify eligibility and assist victims in registering for PromptPay to expedite the payment process, said Traisulee.
