Sea Turtle Rescued from Fishing Net on Mai Khao Beach

Phuket –

A sea turtle was rescued after being entangled in a fishing net on the Mai Khao Beach in Thalang.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified from an unidentified lifeguard at the Mai Khao Beach that a sea turtle which was stuck in a fishing net was washed up on the beach. He helped to remove the fishing net from the turtle.

The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the young Hawksbill turtle. Its gender could not be identified. The turtle is 28.5 centimeters wide, 31.5 centimeters long, and weighs three kilograms. The turtle was weak with deep wounds on both its flippers and leg. The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment before being released back to the sea.
