Sea Turtle Rescued from Fishing Net at Kamala Beach

Kamala –

A sea turtle was rescued after being entangled in a fishing net at Kamala Beach.

The Thai Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were notified from locals near the beach that a sea turtle was stuck in a fishing net and washed up on the beach. They initially helped to remove the fishing net from the turtle.

The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the male adult Olive Ridley sea turtle. He is 71.5 centimeters wide and weighs 31.2 kilograms. The turtle was weak with deep wounds on both his flippers and legs. The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment.
