Thai Tourism Minister Vows to Continue Visa-Free Policies and Boost Domestic Travel

On September 5th, 2024, newly-appointed Deputy Finance Minister Chulaphan Amornvivat gave an interview regarding the Entertainment Complex (Casino) project after completing public hearings on the draft bill, with over 80% of respondents expressed approval.

Chulaphan highlighted the strengths of the new economic team, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira, who specializes in capital markets and the private sector, while Deputy Finance Minister Paopoom Rojanasakul brings academic expertise.

Chulaphan emphasized that several economic initiatives, including the digital wallet scheme, financial hub, and the Vayupak Fund, are moving forward.

Regarding the Entertainment Complex, Chulaphan noted that the idea originated in Parliament and has now completed the public hearing process with over 80% approval. The next steps involve discussions among coalition parties before submitting the draft to the Cabinet and Parliament.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong addressed tourism policies, crediting former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin for laying a solid foundation. Sorawong aims to continue visa-free agreements and promote domestic tourism to boost the local economy, according to Thai national media.
