A sea turtle was rescued after its flipper became entangled by a fishing net at the Kata Beach.
The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) were notified from a hotel staffer near the beach that a sea turtle was stuck in a fishing net and washed up on the beach. They helped to remove the fishing net from the turtle.
The DMCR arrived at the beach to find the female adult Olive Ridley sea turtle. She is 65 centimeters long and weighs 22 kilograms. The turtle was weak with deep wounds on both her flippers and legs. The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment.
