Now for the update:
The Karon Police Chief Colonel Khundet Na Nongkhai told the Phuket Express about the findings on Wednesday (September 4th). On Tuesday night (September 3rd) they questioned the victim’s wife and his Russian friend, who were not named by police.
They told police that the Russian man and his wife asked to stay with their friend at an apartment near the Karon Temple two days before. The couple reportedly had financial problems. Police inspected the apartment where they did not find any evidence of a murder.
On Monday afternoon (September 2nd) the victim and his wife had reportedly been arguing after the Russian man allegedly asked her to die by suicide together due to their ongoing financial issues but she refused. The Russian man then left the apartment alone wearing only shorts and carrying a black bag as shown on CTTV footage nearby.
He did not seem to be injured from any assault. The victim was seen heading to Karon Beach on foot before he was lost from sight on CCTV cameras. An autopsy result showed that the Russian man died from excessive bleeding and now believed to be a possible suicide.
Police found that the victim’s daughter was with his mother in Pattaya, where they had left for after the argument. They are heading back to Phuket for questioning. However, the investigation continues by relevant Phuket police and a final determination on the exact cause of death is still underway.
