Pregnant Whale with Plastic Inside Her Stomach Found Dead on Phuket Beach

A pregnant sperm whale was found dead on a beach in Thalang with plastic inside her stomach.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Monday (September 2nd) they were notified from a lifeguard at the Bang Tao Beach in Cherng Talay of the incident. They arrived at the beach to find a female adult Dwarf Sperm Whale. She was 224 centimeters long and had already unfortunately decomposed.

An autopsy was conducted and plastic garbage was found inside her stomach. Tragically, an unborn male baby whale was found inside the mother whale.

Veterinarians believe that plastic garbage is the main cause of death that clogged the intestine of the mother whale. The whale became sick before drowning.
