Phuket Landslide Death Toll Raised to 13 People

Thirteen people have been found dead including two Russian nationals after a landslide in Karon on Friday early in the morning (August 23rd).

Ten people have been found dead including two Russian nationals while one person is believed to be still missing after a landslide in Karon on Friday early in the morning (August 23rd).

Now for the update:

The search for the missing has been continued since the morning of Saturday (August 24th). The Phuket City District Chief Mr. Worasit Putjeep spoke with the Phuket Express at 01:30 P.M.

According to Worasit, rescue workers found three more bodies of Myanmar nationals who stayed in rental rooms. The death toll has subsequently been raised from 10 to 13.

Worasit stated that rescue workers reported that one Myanmar couple were tragically found deceased hugging each other holding a mobile phone and a flashlight and the other body was an elderly bed ridden Myanmar national.

Of the total of 13 deaths, two were a Russian couple, three were males from Myanmar, five were females from Myanmar, two were females and a male Thais from Sakhon Nakhon and Surat Thani.

No more people have been reported missing as of press time, stated Worasit. The search operation has concluded but the clean up operation has continued as well as estimation of the total cost of damages, likely to be in the millions of Baht.
