Caretaker Deputy Minister of Interior Visited Phuket to Distribute Relief Supplies to Flood and Landslide Victims

PRESS RELEASE:

Caretaker Deputy Minister of Interior Chada Thaiseth has visited Phuket province to provide support and distribute relief supplies to victims of recent floods and mudslides in Karon subdistrict. During the visit, he inspected the landslide site and offered encouragement to the affected residents. He also received a damage briefing from Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat and personally donated funds to the flood relief center at Kittisangkaram Temple.

During an onsite meeting, Chada directed local authorities to investigate the causes of the landslide and expedite the deployment of machinery to restore damaged homes. He also instructed provincial officials to ensure timely compensation for those who suffered losses, including fatalities. The ongoing relief efforts have addressed 10 confirmed fatalities, 3 missing persons, 19 injuries, and impacts on 209 households across 3 subdistricts and 9 villages in the capital district.

Multiple agencies have mobilized to assist affected communities. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office of Karon Subdistrict Municipality is coordinating the response, while the Rapid Response Team has established a joint command center with the subdistrict municipality. Additional support has come from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation, and the Phang Nga Naval Base, which has set up a royal kitchen to provide meals to those in need.

The Phuket Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command continues to monitor the situation. While floodwaters have receded in many areas, efforts to locate missing persons and manage the landslide situation are ongoing. Although some roads remain constrained, most are now passable, and conditions are expected to improve if no further rainfall occurs.

The preceding is a press release from the Thai Government PR Department.
