Man Arrested After Driving Undocumented Jet-ski in Rassada

Rassada –

A man was arrested after he was found driving an unregistered jet-ski without a driving license near a pier in Rassada.

The Phuket Marine Police told the Phuket Express that earlier this week they were patrolling at a pier in the Rassada sub-district in Mueang Phuket when they found Mr. Weerachai, last name withheld, who was driving a jet-ski.

Marine police requested to conduct a standard document inspection but found that the jet-ski was unregistered. Mr. Weerachai was also unable to present a legal marine vehicle driving license. He was taken to the Phuket City Police Station to face charges of driving a jet-ski without a legal marine driving license.

Legal checks on the status of jet skis in Phuket are becoming more common, notes The Phuket Express, due to multiple complaints in the past around the noise the devices cause and rental customers allegedly getting ripped off by business operators, often over accusations around damaging the jet skis when the clients claim they did not.

Riding a jet ski, as noted, even a rental, technically requires a proper marine vehicle license but had previously been rarely enforced.
