Phuket Hungry Ghost Festival Begins with Parade – PHOTO TOUR

Phuket –

The Phuket Hungry Ghost festival (Por Tor) began with a parade in Phuket Town.

Our previous story:

Thai- Chinese people in Phuket believe that ancestor’s spirits are released back to the earth to visit their relatives and families during this time of the year in the lunar calendar.

Now for the update:

The parade on Tuesday (August 20th) started from the Golden Dragon statue on Thalang Road. The Phuket Municipality Mayor Mr. Saroj Angkanapilart launched the festival with a parade of red turtle cakes. Turtles represent good health and long life while red is also the color of good luck to the Chinese.

The parade went to the Taew Nam Intersection – Phuket Road headed to the Surin Circle (clock tower) to hold the Por Tor ceremony at the Public Fresh Market 1 on the Ranong Road.
