Baby Dugong Rescued in Krabi

A living baby dugong was spotted by tourists before being rescued in Ao Nang.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that park rangers from the Hat Noppharat Thara Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park were notified of the dugong by tourists. They found a living baby dugong floating alone near the Po Da Island in the Ao Nang sub-district.

The DMCR arrived to find the young baby dugong aged around two months old. It is 102 centimeters long and weighs 13.8 kilograms. The dugong was weak, thin and dehydrated. Some small wounds were found on its nose and head.

The dugong was taken to the Natural and Environment Resources Center in Trang for medical treatment.
