Fire Destroys Ancient Building in Temple on Samui Island

A major fire has destroyed an ancient building aged almost a hundred years old in a temple in the Koh Samui district.

Firefighters were notified of the fire in the early morning on Friday (August 9th) at the Samret Temple in the Maret sub-district. Fire fighters arrived at the temple with multiple fire engines to find the fire was heavily ablaze at two buildings inside the temple.

The two buildings were the ancient prayer hall and the learning building. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by the Forensic Police as of press time.

The ancient prayer hall was built 98 years ago. The Samret Temple was announced as one of the major Surat Thani archaeological sites last year.
