Annual Phuket ‘Hungry Ghost’ Festival to Start This Month

The annual Thai- Chinese Phuket ‘Hungry Ghost’ or Por Tor festival will be held from August 16th to September 2nd, 2024.

The festival is well known by foreigners as ‘Hungry Ghost’ but it is called ’Por Tor’ in Phuket. Thai- Chinese people in Phuket believe that ancestor’s spirits are released back to the earth to visit their relatives and families during this time of the year in the lunar calendar.

This year the festival will be held in Phuket Town from August 16th to September 2nd, 2024. This year the festival will be under the slogan ‘Power of faith’.
