PRESS RELEASE:
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is scheduled to visit Phuket today to review initiatives focused on marine conservation and waste reduction.
Thipamart Oop-noi, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center (Upper Andaman Sea), has said that preparation has been made for the Prime Minister’s visit, which include the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animals Rescue Center.
The Director said that the rescue center is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured marine animals. It features specialized pools for treating rare marine mammals and stranded sea creatures, along with a diagnostic lab equipped for blood tests, tissue examination, and radiography. The center also includes water management systems and facilities for necropsy and waste management.
Open to the public for educational purposes, the center plans to expand its exhibition and rescue areas to meet higher standards and provide greater community benefits.
The Prime Minister will visit the area to continuously monitor and address the prevention and resolution measures for landslides following the incidents that occurred in July. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inspect the progress of the Phuket Sandbox project, which aims to reduce beach waste by promoting eco-friendly packaging and encouraging collaboration among beach vendors and tourists to manage waste effectively. The program serves as a model for sustainable beach waste reduction.
