Phuket, Thailand– On Tuesday, August 6th, Phuket International Airport in Thalang experienced a blackout lasting 25 minutes.
Video clips of the incident, shared on social media, showed passengers walking in the dark, but there was no sign of panic among them.
Following the incident, Phuket International Airport issued a press release stating that the blackout occurred due to a malfunction in the 115 kV power distribution system of the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) at 6:25 P.M. The malfunction prevented the PEA from distributing electricity, affecting not only the airport but also the wider Thalang district.
The airport’s generator system was activated to ensure that essential aviation services continued without disruption. By 6:40 P.M., the PEA had resolved the issue, and normal electrical supply was restored by 6:50 P.M.
Authorities have expressed their gratitude for the passengers’ understanding and cooperation during the brief disruption.
