Female Wild Elephant Electrocuted in Ranong National Park

Ranong, Southern Thailand – A tragic incident occurred in the Kra Buri district of Ranong, where a female wild elephant was found dead due to electrocution on a hill within a national park area.

Mr. Chumphon Thongsamui, a park ranger at the Thung Raya – Nasak Wildlife Sanctuary in Namtok Ngao National Park, reported to the Phuket Express that they were notified of the discovery on Monday, August 5th. The elephant was found approximately five kilometers from the national park station, near a radio station close to a telephone signal tower.

The deceased elephant, estimated to be around 35 years old, was discovered near a concrete road. Burn marks were observed on its trunk and mouth, leading authorities to believe that the elephant had been dead for at least two days before being found. A veterinarian confirmed that the cause of death was high voltage electrocution.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of wildlife in the area.
