The following is our weekly feature in which we highlight the top local stories in our area of Phuket from the past week. The number of stories differs from week to week.
These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket.
They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, July 29th to Sunday August 4th, 2024.
- A Chinese man who went missing at Karon Beach was tragically found dead on the Freedom Beach in Karon on Monday (July 29th).
He had gone missing in the sea on Thursday (July 25th).
2. July 31st, tragedy struck as two tourists lost their lives in separate drowning incidents at different beaches in Phuket.
These are, unfortunately, not the first drowning incidents involving tourists in Phuket recently.
3. The Phuket Fisheries Office is hunting for a crocodile which was spotted in a lagoon in Thalang.
The crocodile was finally caught on Monday (August 5th).
4. A Pakistani, Egyptians, Nigerians, and a Myanmar man were arrested in a Phuket overstay crackdown.

5. One pygmy killer whale died while another five of them survived at a bay in Pa Klok, Phuket.

6. Phuket Highways Office Chief Yutthana Phitak announced a new underpass project at the Tha Ruea intersection on the Tha Ruea-Mueang Mai road in Thalang.
