Thalang –
One killer whale died while another five of them survived at a bay in Pa Klok, Phuket.
A local environment Facebook page ‘Save Ao Kung Save the Sea’ shared the photos with a message saying that in the early morning of Saturday (August 3rd) they found three living dolphins near a mangrove forest in the Kung Bay (Shrimp Bay).
The rescue teams tried to support those dolphins and waited for high tide. One of them, tragically, could not survive. Staffers from the Phuket Marine Biological Center also arrived at the bay to assist the marine workers.
Marine experts later said that the animals are not dolphins but Pygmy Killer Whales. They are mostly found in deep seas in tropical and temperate homes. Phuket has never previously had any reports of Pygmy Killer Whales. Baan Ao Kung is a small village in the east of Phuket and most of the local people are fishermen and also focused on environmental conservation.
The Phuket Marine Biological center later reported that a total of five Pygmy Killer Whales were released back to the sea.
