Phuket, July 31st, 2024- The Marine Department convened a workshop at the Royal Phuket City Hotel to consolidate the master plan for transforming the Andaman Coast Provinces into a hub for tourism and maritime transportation.
Lieutenant Colonel Adul Chuthong, Deputy Governor of Phuket Province, presided over the event, joined by Mr. Narin Sak Satthaprasit, Deputy Director-General of the Marine Department for Water Transport Infrastructure, local government representatives, and media personnel.
Mr. Narin Sak Satthaprasit highlighted the ongoing project, which aims to elevate the Andaman Coast’s status as a tourism and maritime center. The initiative, initiated on September 5, 2023, and scheduled to conclude by February 25, 2025, focuses on developing community ports and enhancing coastal transport systems.
Key milestones include seminars introducing the project, data analyses, and the preparation of a comprehensive master plan. Community marinas across Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Phuket, Trang, and Satun Provinces are central to this vision.
During today’s third workshop in Phuket, stakeholders discussed environmental impact assessments and design considerations for community marinas. Notably, concerns were raised about the construction site for the Ao Nam Mao Community Marina in Krabi Province, which partially overlaps with a national park area containing vital seagrass habitats.
