Sea Turtle Rescued after Being Found Entangled in a Fishing Net in Rawai

A sea turtle was rescued after its flipper became entangled by a fishing net at the Rawai Beach.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) told the Phuket Express that on Sunday (July 28th) they were notified from a staffer at the Rawai Municipality that a sea turtle which was still alive was entangled in a fishing net and was washed up on the Rawai Beach in the Mueang Phuket District.

Rescue teams arrived at the beach to find the young Hawksbill Sea Turtle. It is 27.5 centimeters wide, 31.5 centimeters long and weighs 1.8 kilograms. The turtle was weak and thin and its left flipper was severely infected. The sea turtle was taken to the Sireetarn Marine Endangered Animal Rescue Center in Wichit for further medical treatment.
