These are chosen and curated by our editorial team and are designed for our readers to get a quick “catch-up” of important stories they may have missed. We publish many stories daily and it is easy to lose track of important events or changes in our area. We do national recaps in a separate article, this is only the top local stories in Phuket.
They are in no particular order of importance but roughly in order of publishing. These are from Monday, July 22nd to Sunday July 28th, 2024.
1. An Australian father is urgently seeking assistance to locate his missing son, who is believed to be in Phuket.
An Australian man who was reported missing by his father after losing contact with him has been found safe in Bangkok.

2. A tour boat at a pier in Rassada was captured on video releasing a black substance into the sea, sparking widespread concern on social media.

The representative clarified that the black substance was not oil, as speculated on social media, but soot.
3. Two taxi drivers were caught on a dash cam attacking another taxi driver in Cherng Talay, Thalang. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 24th, at 10:30 P.M. near Layan Beach and quickly went viral on local social media.
The altercation began when the two taxi drivers told Mr. Wiroj that he could not wait for customers in the area. When Mr. Wiroj questioned this, stating that the area was public, the two men attacked him.
4. Two Pakistani nationals were apprehended in Kamala after a series of thefts involving a clever 1,000 baht banknote trick. The suspects targeted businesses across Phuket, Pattaya, and other provinces.

The thieves claimed they were intoxicated when committing the crimes and that they hadn’t meant to con anyone. Police, however, don’t believe the suspects.
5. Kamala police officers reported the arrest of a Russian tourist involved in the exchange of counterfeit foreign currency in Kamala, Kathu.

Evgeniia faces charges of importing counterfeit banknotes into the Kingdom, possessing counterfeit notes with intent to use, and evading customs regulations.
